HISTORY
In April of 2020, as businesses were shutting down across the country due to COVID-19, I wanted to do something to drive traffic to local independent bookstores at a time when most people were sequestered in their homes. My small gesture of support came in the form of limited-edition Savage Son bookplates available only through independent bookstores. I published the list of participating bookstores with contact information on my website and they sold out immediately. In April of 2021, in an effort to continue supporting the local independent bookstores I love so much, I replicated that campaign for the publication of The Devil’s Hand. Those also sold out immediately. For the publication of In the Blood, a sniper-centric novel of violent resolutions, it was time to move things to the next level and send a bullet through title pages that are bound into the book, those bullets making each novel a one-of-a-kind edition. Once again, they sold out immediately. In 2023 I continued the tradition for the publication of Only the Dead, a novel of truth and consequences, using a clone of an Iraqi Tabuk AK built by the legendary Jim Fuller of Fuller Phoenix. It is a clone of the Kalashnikov that James Reece uses at the end of The Devil’s Hand.
2024 – RED SKY MOURNING
This year, for the publication of my seventh novel, Red Sky Mourning, I once again visited my friends at the Park City Gun Club in Park City, Utah to start sending rounds through signed title pages. If you are looking for a unique addition to your library, find limited “shot through” editions of Red Sky Mourning, a novel that explores the loyalty between friends, family, Teammates, and country, at independent bookstores via the links below. This time I used a Flux Defense Raider X, chassis with a SIG Sauer P320 set up with a SIG Sauer MODX-9 suppressor, Aimpoint T2, on a Scalarworks mount, SureFire X300T, Ferro Concepts single point sling, with Speer Gold Dot G29mm 147 grain ammo which all fit nicely in a Vertx Ardennes Valet Bag – a setup as close as I could get to what is used in the novel.
From REd sky Mourning…
The team carried what Reece recognized as Flux Defense Raider Xs on Ferro Concepts single-point slings. The Raider was a micro PDW, or Personal Defense Weapon, designed for operations in semipermissive, nonpermissive or denied environments where concealability was paramount but where one also needed additional capability beyond that offered by a traditional handgun. The Raider chassis system with a spring-loaded stock accepted the 9mm SIG P320 Fire Control Unit, barrel and slide and offered operators the speed, maneuverability, and concealability of a pistol with the magazine capacity and stability of a carbine. It was designed for those times you want a rifle, but the operational environment just does not allow for it. These were coyote tan and affixed with SIG MODX-9 suppressors, Aimpoint T2 red-dot optics, and SureFire X300Ts mounted in the six o’clock position. Top-mounted charging handles allowed for L3 Harris NGALs – Next Generation Aiming Lasers – to be attached to three-slot picatinny rails on the left side. Reece noted they had all tac reloaded after their engagement; the larger capacity thirty-round magazines were in their weapons and the twenty-one-round magazines were secured in their foregrips. These were professionals.
